When And How To Transplant A Large Tree Part Two

We’ll start the transplanting off by measuring the width and height of the tree’s root ball. The new hole that we dug originally should be twice the size for accommodation.

When we reach the bottom surface of the soil after digging the new hole, we never try to break up the soil. This would allow the tree’s roots to sink in further potentially causing rot or loss of structural integrity.

We finally begin digging about 3 feet away from the base of the tree as not to damage it or the roots. The idea here is to get as much of the root out as possible without damage. We’ll use a tarp and wrap the tree and roots up to transport to the new area.
